Is the United Nations a DAO in disguise?
📌People usually talk about DAOs as principally new ways to organize, which is certainly true in technical implementation. But in practical terms, DAOs exist all around us in one way or another. We recently explored how various chat groups are de facto DAOs. But what about a massive organization that everybody knows? Is the United Nations itself a DAO? Considering it may be about to undergo a major test of its structure (more on that below), the UN is a great example to explore.
✅ Its membership structure, proposals and voting, and working groups all act in a way reminiscent of DAOs. Its Security Council is similar to a validator group. Yet, the UN lacks the mechanisms to make it decentralized and autonomous.
💡Maybe it could get there, though. Could the UN become more like a real DAO? And how?
These questions are explored in the full article 👉 here

✅ Are you in a DAO without knowing it? A case study.
📍We normally think of DAOs as blockchain-based organizations with a governance token, on/offchain voting, a treasury, etc. But there are currently millions of groups around the world organized essentially as a DAO without even suspecting it. In fact, you may already be a member of a few.
❓Have you ever been part of a secret Telegram chat group where trading alpha is discussed? Such groups act a lot like a DAO in how they handle membership, governance, treasury management and more.
They could also benefit from formally becoming a DAO.
📖 How? Find out all the details of how these groups are DAO-like and how they could be DAOing better in the full article 👉 here

📖Twitter space recap
A few days ago, our DeXe DAO Talks had an interesting discussion with a crypto-native attorney, Irina Heaver, and Taras Zharun — our community member who submitted a proposal in our governance forum about legal strategies for the DeXe DAO.
📌In answering community questions, Taras explained why he saw the need for such a proposal, what legal issues he was anticipating, how the legal entity would be governed, why Switzerland, and more.
✅Irina shared some of her extensive knowledge on the legal issues facing DAOs, including the benefits of having a legal wrapper, why choosing a jurisdiction matters, how a legal entity protects the DAO, why Switzerland moved away from Foundations and towards Associations, and much more.
The discussion was truly eye-opening for understanding the interaction between a DAO's on-chain and off-chain governance. Check out the full recap 👉 here

🌪Tornado Cash’s whirlwind of a ride is almost over
Tornado Cash got hacked in the most nightmarish way for a DAO — by having its governance process subverted by a malicious actor who got the unsuspecting community to give him the power of 1,200,000 votes while the entire TORN community only has around 700,000 votes.
📌And then, he suddenly proposed to give all the control back. But not before using Tornado Cash’s own mixer to obfuscate the movement of the 483,000 TORN tokens he stole from their treasury, netting around $890,000 in ETH with another $160,000 still held in TORN.
How will it end? Well, there may be a happy ending in sight very soon. And a major lesson for all DAOS.

🌪Wow, what a storm of a week for Tornado Cash, right?
First, someone hacked their governance, tricking the DAO's members to vote in favor of giving the hacker full control (via giving him 1.2 million votes vs. everybody else's 700k).
Then the hacker put up a proposal to restore the governance to the old way, basically giving back control.
❓Will the hacker actually give up on the total control of Tornado Cash (and its treasury)?
Or is this a ploy to slow down the selloff of the TORN token (and raise its price) so the hacker could cash out more?
✅Regardless, this is a big flashing warning for all DAOs to be careful with their governance mechanism. Whether via validators, careful quorum settings, or other measures, the need to protect against malicious proposals is crucial for the viability of DAO as a governance form.

Automatically reward members for:

✔️proposing
✔️executing proposals
📌Proper incentives encourage DAO members to build, to get involved in ways that are beneficial to them individually and the DAO as a whole.
Let's reward effective activity — not hinder it!🔥

❕❕Is most DAO governance fake? Study of nonsensical DAO activity.
Tens of thousands of wallets making and voting on proposals have zero governance value. What can be done about these nonsensical DAOs?
📌The situation is bad: Top 5 of the most active DAOs includes a lot of mostly unknown DAOs.
➖For example, Iwan DAO had 136 proposals in the past week, all of them about… logging weight.
➖2021eth had 47 proposals… all of them are spam about memecoins, NFT drops, and the like. $PEPE, of course, is front and center.
Not surprisingly, 2021eth has zero tokenholders and nothing in its treasury.
✅If Iwan and 2021eth want to use a Ferrari to drive around a mini-golf course, fine. But this should not count as a DAO for compiling statistical sets of DAO governance. The data we are seeing is littered with nonsensical DAOs.

⚠️DAO Money Heist: How thieves are draining DAO funds in plain sight
DeepDAO’s candid interview with a “professional DAO drainer” showed how some scam DAOs by appearing legit to the more gullible of the DAO’s members.
This is generally true because:
▪️Most people don’t read proposals carefully.
▪️Many will vote for anything just to show activity in hope of some future reward (like an airdrop).
▪️There is little vetting of DAO contractors.
🔹Social engineering of trust
Money grabbers infiltrated the DAOs so deeply as to become trusted moderators and community leaders.
🔹Fighting back
A lesson can be learned from sniping bots, which plagued AMM launches until 111PG came in and made the game not worth it.
🔹Trust shield
One option is to have a DAO of Experts with special voting power benefitting themselves and those delegating to them.

🗳DAO on-chain voting: Myth or Reality?
▪️Is onchain voting being used for frequent and meaningful DAO governance?
⚠️A mere 8% of DAOs use exclusively on-chain voting.
DAOs use a variety of tools for on-chain voting and it’s a bit of a mess. There is no single tool for onchain voting.
▪️How decentralized are DAOs if most are controlled by less than 10 addresses?
❕Delegation should help but there are yet to emerge clear mechanisms for delegate selection and transparency.
There are a lot of governance transactions that have no value for governance, instead just trying to get future airdrops.
❗️Notably, it cumulatively costs DAO members millions of dollars to vote onchain.
DeXe DAO constructor aims to solve these problems by making it easy to reward voting, proposal, and execution activity while also giving different voting types flexibility options🔥
